NEWS

Since the founding of the club, a weekly bulletin has been written and distributed to our members.  Guided by a rich legacy of experience, whether the bulletin is written in the spirit of Ray Bates, Paul Clarkson, or John Tripp, or whether it is in the words of current members Rick Genenbacher or our current editor the "Big Dog" Jeff Dorsey, the QSC Bulletin features all the news that fit to print...and a lot that isn't.

June 2026

The QSC with superb assistance from the Quincy High School football team and supporters, placed 625 flags at city residences and businesses on Flag Day, June 14th. The QSC and Team Niederhauser proudly paid respect to our nation’s flag through their efforts.

The QSC hosted Dr. Jason Watkins who provide us an update on the future of a Veteran’s Memorial at the VFW at 6th and Payson. Assisting with the Pledge of Allegiance was Margaret Watkins.

The QSC hosted Amy Peters from the Quincy Children’s Museum. Amy provided us with an update on the progress of the current construction of the permanent home for the museum as well as what is coming up in the near future.

The QSC with awesome assistance from the Quincy High School football team and supporters, placed 605 flags at city residences and businesses on Memorial Day. The QSC pays tribute and honors our fallen who bravely served our country.

The QSC hosted Quincy Notre Dame Varsity Girls Basketball and Softball Head Coach, Eric Orne and QND alumni, multi-sport all-stater and four-year MO women’s basketball player, Abbey Schreacke. Coach Orne walked us through his career path to 600+ victories in basketball and softball. Abbey informed us about her road to success as a college student athlete and the dedication it requires.

The QSC hosted Greg Altmix, QND Head Boys Basketball Coach. Coach Altmix updated the club on his team’s 32-2 record and participation in the IHSA 2025-26 Class 2A championship game.

The QSC hosted Amy McGlaughlin and Jena Blacketer from the River’s Edge Ombudsman Program. Their program provides advocacy services for residents in long-term care settings (nursing homes and assisted living) across a six-county regional area.

The QSC for the 59TH year, honored our area’s best First Responders and Public Safety professionals. Mackenzie Schissel, General Manager and Brian Wosman, Assistant, General Manager of the Quincy Doggie Paddlers provided an update on their upcoming second prospect league season in Quincy.

Morgan Parker from the Quincy Medical Group Foundation was our guest speaker. Money raised by the Foundation helps enhance the health of our communities, support development, and positively impact our youth.

QSC celebrated club member Elvin Townsend and his upcoming 94th birthday on Tuesday, Feb 17th. Thanks to Kevin Curran for arranging the cake and event!

Ms. Jamie Friye and Ms. Kathelyn Smith were our QSC guest speakers on February 6th. They provided a presentation on Lincoln Legal Aid free civil legal services for low-income individuals and senior citizens in 65 counties in central and southern Illinois.

QSC Receives Award!

The District in Quincy held their 2025 annual meeting on 15 Jan 26 at the Corinthian. The QSC received the “Partner Organization of the Year” award. The award was presented to the Club for our work with the downtown flags program. Representing the QSC at the event was Terry Austin, Shane Bartley, Chad Cramsey and their spouses.
